The increasing globalization of capital is dramatically impacting countries, communities and employment. This essay considers its impact on Canada in the context of North American free trade. Canada, with its dependent economy but more developed welfare state than Mexico or the United States, has perhaps more to lose from free trade than its partners. The threat to jobs and working conditions is discussed, along with possible policy solutions to safeguard employment and labor standards.
