Abstract
ASA President James Coleman has joined the National Association of Scholars (NAS) in its campaign against "political correctness" in academia. In this article we examine the origins of the NAS, its sources of funding, and the nature of its activities. We show that the NAS is part of a broader "neoconservative" network and argue that the organization, despite its deceptive rhetoric, poses a serious threat to academic freedom.
