Abstract
The disposition of intravenous (IV) tobramycin was studied in six patients on CAPD without peritonitis.
Tobramycin half-life was 34.6 h, the mean peritoneal clearance was 4.2 ml/min and the mean total body clearance was 8.0 ml/min. The amount of tobramycin removed during 24 hours on CAPD was approximately 20 mg, representing about 20.5% of the dose administered. Peak dialysate concentrations at the end of the first dwell varied from 1.8 to 3.1 ug/ml. Patients who r∼quire tobramycin for extraperitoneal infection should receive a loading dose of about 1.5 mg/kg, and a maintenance dose of 0.75 mg/kg every 36 hours.
