Percutaneous peritoneal dialysis catheter placement using the Veress needle is considered safe; however, because the needle is usually inserted blindly, there is a risk of visceral or vascular injury. Although ultrasound guidance can reduce this risk, the puncture process has not been described in detail. We therefore illustrate the procedure using ultrasound images and schematic drawings.
