The article employs a historical case study to document the evolution of a curriculum controversy between religious conservatives and secular progressives within a southern community fractured along racial and social class lines. In addressing how educational policy on sexuality curriculum was developed within this community of religious and ideological differences, the author argues that it is actually the hidden curriculum of race that is most salient for educational policy makers because both sides in this policy debate share a set of core Euro-American values.
