Abstract
Career education for children with handicaps is an area of concern to all persons involved with exceptional children, adolescents and adults in today's work-oriented society. Elements of career education, such as self-awareness, attitudes toward work, decision-making skills, and specific employability skills, must be dealt with early in each student's life. This educational orientation brings a greater meaning to the learning and practice of basic academic skills by demonstrating to students the myriad of ways these skills are applied in work and daily living. Moreover, it offers a significant dimension of relevance and motivation to both students and teachers. It answers the frequently asked question, "What am I learning this for?"
