Abstract
This report describes a study designed to address gaps in the current knowledge and understanding of the classroom use of information and communication technology. Taking a microlevel approach, the study involved the observation, recording, and analysis of events and behaviors in a single Grade 4 classroom in which pairs of students engaged in collaborative Internet-based activity; the main focus was on gender and whether it made a difference to the children's engagement with and completion of the project. The results indicated that girls were at least as able as boys to complete the Internet activity. Furthermore, girls displayed greater enthusiasm for the task than did their male classmates.
