This paper presents two recent developments in the European GIS scene that have a clearly European-wide dimension and probably will have an important impact on GIS-related developments in the years to come. The first is GISDATA, a scientific program at the European scale, and the second is EUROGI, the European Umbrella Organisation for Geographic Information. Keywords GIS, Europe.
