In considering the development of computer-based economics teaching in the United Kingdom the discussion is organized under three headings: Advances in Computer Technology, focusing on changes in the cost, power, and ease of use in computer systems that have made greater use of computers in teaching possible, Individual and Organizational Initiatives, highlighting some of the individuals and groups as well as official bodies that have promoted the greater use of computer-based teaching in economics; and External Forces for Change, discussing some of the new pressures on teaching institutions to increase student numbers and to recognize vocational needs that point to an increasing need for computer-based teaching in the United Kingdom.
