Abstract
The authors of chapters deal with the social impacts of white-collar technology and the implementation of technology in the office. Particular themes include treatment of clerical workers, the future of telework, experiences implementing office automation, and socio-technical systems design. Most authors indicate that management goals and practices play a major role in how work is transformed, and that technology is often just a catalyst. Some of the researchers report that organizations which take an organic/enabling approach have more satisfactory experiences implementing new technologies.
