Abstract
While there is considerable use of computing within anthropology, the potential for a true anthropological computing remains largely unfulfilled. Disciplinary history, funding priorities, and lack of organization among computer-oriented anthropologists have contributed to a situation discouraging the development of computer-assisted instruction, research, and publication forums. Recent attempts to address these problems, coupled with new distribution media and networks, offer hope that the next few years will see dramatic advances in anthropological applications. Keywords: computer-assisted instruction, computer-aided research, videodisc, CD-ROM, hypertext, HyperCard.
