Abstract
This book, bundled with TETRAD software, critiques existing methods of casual inference (e.g., experimentation, casual modeling based on linear assumptions) and both proposes and implements an alternative based on a computerized heuristic search program (TETRAD) for developing alternative causal models. Case studies illustrate TETRAD's usefulness in the study of industrial-political development, authoritarian personalities, SAT scores, roll-call voting, Head Start programs, and alienation.
