Abstract
Susan K. Martin has contributed the bulk of the published literature on library networking applications, including this, the fourth volume in what appears to be the sole monographic series devoted to the topic. The earlier titles in Martin's series assess the state of library networking in 1976-1977, 1978-1979, and 1980-1981. This volume grapples with issues emerging in the now mature industry of library networking : appropriate structures for network governance; ownership of databanks and copyright; the economics of cooperation; the political and organizational implications of linking multiple networks; and competition between the regional, feeder networks and the national network utilities.
