Abstract
FDR AND THE NEW DEAL is an interactive tutorial for students learning about how Roosevelt dealt with the problems of the Great Depression through federal legislation from 1933 to 1940. The play sequence is divided into three parts: legislative action, executive action, and events. In the first two parts the player tries to match the actions actually taken by Roosevelt. Events are given for a historical perspective. The ideological results of congressional elections bear on which legislation will pass and what future legislation will be proposed. The player's ability to make historically accurate decisions determines whether or not Roosevelt gets re-elected in 1936 and 1940.
