Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to illuminate the conceptual foreknowings of the universal humanuniverse living experience of feeling afraid. A period of dwelling with printed materials from diverse disciplines fostered deeper insight into the essence and meaning of the phenomenon under inquiry. The humanbecoming paradigm of Rosemarie Rizzo Parse serves as the guiding framework and interpretive lens for this exploration. The synthesis of the literature led to the crafting of three themes, arranged as paradoxes that reflect the inherent rhythmical patterns of humanuniverse living described in the humanbecoming paradigm. The crafted themes are (a) feeling afraid surfaces with the known-unknown, (b) feeling afraid emerges with sureness-unsureness, and (c) feeling afraid arises with trust-mistrust.
