Abstract
This article presents a reconceptualization of the contextual nature of interpersonal communication in management theory and research. The current literature related to the area of interpersonal managerial communication (IMC) is examined and reformulated within a model that develops (a) the interactional/relational nature of managerial communication, (b) the way IMC is influenced by the work situation and influences the attainment of work goals, and (c) a necessary direction for future research.
