The mechanical properties of injection-molded, carbon fiber reinforced nylon 6,6 com posites were characterized for four different fiber surface treatments. It is demonstrated that, for similar fiber length distributions, improvements in both ultimate and impact strengths can be effected by increasing the degree of fiber-to-resin bonding through modification of the surface treatment. Micrographs of composite fracture surfaces are shown for selected treatments. Composite electrical properties are also presented.
