Abstract
At first, the educational reforms appeared to threaten the traditional autonomous role of the head. However, recent developments of the Senior Management Team suggests that the SMT is evolving as a collegiate headship group, which is assuming many of the traditional roles of the head. Neither this change nor other reforms are really threatening the head role, but rather protecting it, and enabling the head to continue to exercise a comparable, even strengthened role as in the past.
