EDITOR'S NOTE "The Police Station" is a dramaturgical analysis of how police maintain an occupational imagery intended for public consumption Simon Holdaway provides a rich description of the constituent features of an English station house, then examines how these features are manipulated to create and maintain the dramatic imagery of police work Holdaway argues that the station house becomes a means of constructing "front stage" and "back stage" regions which protect police from full public accountability while simultaneously sustaining and strengthening the occupational structure of police work
