Abstract

Growth of the Team at JHL
We consider the Editorial Advisory Board to be an important asset for the journal. Both Dr. Maureen Groer and Dr. Stephanie Devane-Johnson have been active members of the board and will be extending their term for another 3 years.
We would like to introduce Dr. Jung Eun Lee ScD as a new member of our Editorial Advisory Board. Dr. Lee is a professor of Food and Nutrition at Seoul National University. She studied food and nutrition at Seoul National University and received a master’s in Epidemiology and dual Doctor of Science (ScD) doctoral degree in Nutrition and Epidemiology from the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health. Her work has focused on the role of diet in the prevention and survival of major chronic diseases. Dr. Lee is actively involved in dietary studies in the Asia Cohort Consortium, a collaborative effort to understand how lifestyle and environmental factors are associated with disease risk in Asia. She has published over 150 research papers and reviews and has written chapters in a few books, including Translational Breast Cancer Research and Betaine: Chemistry, Analysis, Function and Effects. We are particularly interested in the contributions she will be able to provide with her broad range of quantitative methodologies.
Dr. Jennifer Aron is joining our team as an assistant editor. Her work will be particularly focused on helping our authors who are either less familiar with scientific writing, or who need assistance with language editing to tighten up their manuscript in the final phases of the review process. Dr. Aron has a medical degree from the University of California, San Diego, and two postdoctoral fellowships in pediatrics at the University of Southern California and the University of California, Los Angeles. She currently serves as a resident physician in family medicine at Kingman Regional Medical Center in northwest Arizona. Dr. Aron sees the promotion of breastfeeding as a cornerstone of maternal and infant well-being and is committed to the mother-child dyad.
Jung Eun Lee, Sc.D.

JHL Podcasts, Interviews, and Journal Clubs
We are in a new era of scientific communication and there are so many ways that we can connect with the community of people interested in the topics covered in the Journal of Human Lactation. Our team is considering many possibilities, but we need to find a colleague who will spearhead the efforts. This is an opportunity to communicate directly with many of our authors and to think creatively about making science more accessible. If you are interested in joining our team of Editors in this capacity, contact Dr. Ellen Chetwynd at https://JHLeditorinchief@ilca.org.
Focus on Work and Breastfeeding
Over the next calendar year, the Journal of Human Lactation will be focusing on the intersection between work and breastfeeding. We will prioritize articles on the topic during the 2024 year, and will be hosting conversations that will align with this research priority. Keep an eye on our social media streams for information about upcoming events. A recent editorial, “Applying Research to the Call for Making Breastfeeding and Work Work” discusses our plans and priorities in more detail (Chetwynd, 2023). If you are a researcher working in this topic area, contact Dr. Ellen Chetwynd at https://JHLeditorinchief@ilca.org.
Posters From the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) Conference
This year’s poster session at International Lactation Consultant Association’s® (ILCA®) 2023 Annual Conference, held August 13–15, brimmed with intellectual vigor and conversation. In collaboration with ILCA, we extended an invitation to authors to publish their abstracts in the Journal of Human Lactation. The included abstracts, which can be found at the conclusion of this issue, have been formatted to align with journal standards and were subjected to peer review by the ILCA Conference Planning Taskforce (CPTF) upon submission to ILCA. We are excited to showcase these abstracts and look forward to sustained collaboration with the ILCA CPTF.
Notes From the Field
This effort to spread the research found in the Journal of Human Lactation comes from one of our Editorial Advisory Board Members, Shu Fang Wang PhD, RN, CNM, IBCLC. Dr. Wang is the founding member of both the Taiwan Academy of Breastfeeding and the Chinese Lactation Consultant Association (CLCA).
CLCA was founded in 2015. Its membership consists primarily of lactation support professionals who have either acquired international certification from the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) or completed the three-stage certification in global Chinese lactation support. The association places a strong emphasis on serving members through the utilization of relevant literature. Recognizing the English language limitations of many of its members, and in alignment with a commitment to excellence in clinical practice, committee members actively engage in reviewing the latest published journal articles every other week. They then disseminate a Chinese summary/abstract via email to CLCA members so that everyone can benefit from the valuable insights presented by our authors.
We are always happy to hear about efforts to disseminate the research findings from JHL. Tell us what you are doing with your journal.
