Abstract
During recent years, the U.S. Department of Education has funded several projects designed to develop and implement personnel preparation for general and special educators who teach children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD). In this article, the authors describe Project Facilitate, an inservice education program that provides educators as well as parents with a comprehensive overview of AD/HD. The inservice education program involves the use of four self-instructional content manuals: AD/HD General Knowledge Base (GKB), Legal Issues and AD/HD (LI), Assessment of Children with AD/HD (ASSESS), and AD/HD Interventions (INTER). The evaluation of the inservice education program indicated that participants increased their knowledge in the areas of AD/HD general information, legal issues, assessment, and intervention. These findings suggest that Project Facilitate is an effective inservice education program that can empower educators as well as parents in becoming proactive problem solvers who improve the outcomes for children with AD/HD through school-home collaboration and intervention.
