On the basis of theoretical premises and previous empirical research, three hypotheses are formulated about the effects of increased police visibility. In the first place, a decreased fear of crime among the public is expected. Second, increased police visibility is hypothesized to result in lower estimates of subjective risks of victimization. Finally, it is predicted that police visibility will strengthen police-community relations.
