This paper addresses the need for clothing researchers to develop better justifications for research being proposed, provides guidelines to assist researchers in writing a strong statement ofjustification, and provides two examples of studies with different justification statements. The paper is an outgrowth of discussions of the NCR-65 Committee, Socioeconomic Analysis of Clothing Consumption, of which the authors are members.
