Abstract
The increased use of technology in the retail workplace denotes increasing the technological experiences in the college undergraduate classroom. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate one unit in an upper level merchandising class that used industry-based software to teach retail planning. The class was composed of junior- and senior-level students who all had access to laptop computers. Pedagogy was an application approach resulting in a sales plan that students peer reviewed and analyzed using retail trade averages. Student assessment measures incorporated portfolio presentation and rubric analysis. Students' and professor's comments were included for further consideration. The result of the students' projects using industry-based sales planning and analysis software was of professional quality, demonstrating strengthened analytical skills.
