Abstract
The objective of this design was to develop formal attire for a young woman, age 16-25. Inspiration was derived from paintings by French impressionist artist Edgar Degas. A prototype for the two-piece silhouette was developed by draping. Sheer and semi-sheer fabrics in tri-colored tulle and plaid organza were used to construct the final gown. Surface embellishment of the design included gold beads applied to multi-layers of tulle and tendrils of organza tubing attached to the bodice.
