Abstract
Demand equations are estimated for 10 categories of clothing expenditure using Korean Expenditure Survey data for 1996. Separate equations are estimated with total consumer expenditure and disposal income respectively as proxies for household income. Results reveal sufficient differences in sign and magnitude of regression coefficients between clothing categories to warrant the disaggregation of clothing expenditure. Of particular interest is the demand for Korean traditional costume, which is distinct in several ways. Results are of interest to marketers and others interested in further understanding the Korean market.
