Compensation programs that encourage the best performance possible from boards of directors include several key characteristics: aligning the programs with the business philosophy and mission of the company, making the programs competitive and appealing to the directors, rewarding for performance, and applying variable factors to account for different levels of responsibilities and profitability.
Incorporating these characteristics into board compensation can sharpen the board's focus on the factors that contribute most to company success.
