Abstract
In a wide-ranging discussion at the Compensation & Benefits Review Advisory Board meeting last Fall, board members and AMA editors and man agers talked about significant new developments in compensation and benefits. During the first part of the all-day session, the board discussed such top ics as how buzzwords and fads affect compensa tion design; how restructuring and downsizing are influencing pay plans; the drawbacks of telecom muting ; the increasing mobility of knowledge workers; how to customize a pay program; how firms are offering stock options for nonexecs; the uses of competency-based pay; and trends in team- based pay. The board's comments on these topics are reported in the roundtable below.
