Abstract
Complying with the sea of federal and state benefit laws and corresponding regulations is an immense undertaking. This article provides a checklist for employers to understand recent developments and maintain compliance with regulations. Covering five benefit compliance tasks—document, audit, filing, notification and administration—the checklist highlights the changing landscape in benefit regulation. The article also includes suggestions about the efficiency of reviewing a benefit plan in its entirety when a compliance issue such as GUST affects an employer.
