Abstract
The upper extremity is the most common site for extremity injuries in pediatric patients. The majority of these fractures occur at the wrist and are caused by a fall on an outstretched arm. Elbow fractures are less common and are frequently difficult to detect. The complexity of the elbow joint results in different types of fractures than tend to be seen in other long bones, and knowledge of the mechanism of injury is helpful in this location. This article reviews the common injuries that occur in the upper extremity in children, and emphasizes imaging techniques to optimize detection of subtle injuries.
