Abstract
Pulmonary artery (PA) rupture and hemorrhage is the most dreaded (and potentially fatal) complication of PA catheters. The reported mortality from this complication is 50% [1]. There is very little information available regarding followup and management subsequent to the initial successful control of bleeding. We report a case of pulmonary artery rupture resulting in massive hemorrhage and subsequent development of a PA aneurysm. This aneurysm formation can result in delayed pulmonary hemorrhage with potentially fatal consequences. This case emphasizes the need for follow-up after the successful management of the initial PA rupture.
