Abstract
Abdominal organ transplantation has successfully transformed the lives of patients with end stage kidney, liver, intestinal, and pancreatic disease. Patients awaiting abdominal organ transplant have complex, inter-related organ dysfunction and often have multiple comorbidities. This is further complicated after transplant by the effects of immunosuppression. The intensive care team in conjunction with the transplant team, plays an important role in the management of transplant recipients, particularly in the immediate post-operative period. The focus of this review is the management of the common issues that are seen in the intensive care unit in patients undergoing solid abdominal organ transplant.
