Abstract
Synthesis of telechelic polymer of β-CD-poly(ethylene glycol) using poly(ethylene glycol) and mono-6-O-tosyl-β-CD is described. Three β-lactam antibiotics: ampicillin (Amp), amoxicillin (Amo), and cephalexin (Ceph) were attached to β-CD-poly(ethylene glycol) and to unmodified β-CD as the carrier agents. Structures of these prodrugs were confirmed using spectroscopic methods. The profiles of drug’s release indicated that the isolated pro-drugs could have potential applications for controlled drug release as oral drug delivery systems.
