Association measures derived from a marginal and a conditional table of a three-way table are considered. When the table is incomplete, the equality of the two measures of association cannot be tested. as no joint covariance matrix can be computed with the usual statistical tools. The method of weighted least squares (Grizzle, Starmer, Koch 1969), implemented in DISTAN, is used to solve this problem.
