Abstract
Bowel perforation during liposuction surgery is usually preventable. This article presents the facts and decision in the case of Tillery v Pottle, No 94Cv2942, Superior Court, New Hanover County, North Carolina (1996). Perforation of the bowel is more likely to occur in the presence of an unrepaired hernia. Patients should be warned of the possibility of inadvertent bowel perforation through an undectable hernia if abdominal-wall scars are noticed during the preoperative examination.
