The contact Neodium: YAG laser has advantages over conventional cold-knife surgery of electrocautery in body contouring and reconstructive surgery. Clinically the Nd: YAG laser causes less damage to surrounding tissues than the electrocautery when used for dissection. It provides hemostasis simultaneously during surgery that is advantageous over conventional cold-knife surgery. Patients may have an easier recovery after surgery with the contact YAG laser than after surgery with the electrocautery.
