Abstract
This article reviews the history of body contouring by closed fat removal from the earliest recorded description to the present. The author describes his use of combinations of different types of f at removal by aspiration, including the hand-held syringe, aspiration with a suction aspirator, and a combination of techniques he has used with ultrasonic lipolysis and fat removal.
There has been an evolution of technique in his practice of over 680 procedures. The term “mixed liposculpture” is coined to describe the use of ultrasonic lipolysis combined with aspiration of the treated tissue using low-power machine aspiration or syringe. The author's experience with this technique has resulted in less physical effort by the surgeon, more exact modeling of body contours, excellent results in liposclerosis, a more comfortable postoperative course for the patient, and fewer hematomas and complications.
