Abstract
Mammary hypertrophy has always been a serious problem for women, frequently causing physical pain and deformity as well as psychological disorders associated with self-image. In search of a simple treatment to correct this condition, we have developed an ambulatory liposuction technique. Since the breast consists mainly of fatty tissue, the partial elimination thereof further permits a mastopexy with subsequent upward relocation of the nipple and areola. The resulting formation of internal scar tissue further firms the breast, lessening pressure at the site of the incision. No alteration in sensitivity of the nipple or of the areola results from this practice, and with proper surgical technique, necrosis is ruled out. Bleeding is minimal or nonoccurrent, and glandular function remains unimpaired, since it is not affected by this procedure.
