Abstract
Augmentation rhinoplasty using a solid silicone implant has been and still is a very common procedure done in Asia. The desire to Westernize and or improve one's nasal profile is the reason for its popularity. The use of autogenous grafts in the U.S. is common but leaves much to be desired. Alloplastic implants have been used very successfully in Asia and other parts of the world. The risks of alloplastic implants appear to be exaggerated. Complications can be minimized by adhering to strict criteria on how to use the silicone nasal implant safely. The single most important factor is the thickness of the overlying nasal skin. Our results have survived the test of time.
