Abstract
Varicose veins involving the lower extremities is a common malady and may cause physical symptoms as well as psychological distress because of the cosmetic appearance. Further distress can be caused by iatrogenic complications in the treatment of varicosities. The physician may fail to inform the patient of proper care following therapy, complementary tests may not be ordered, and the physician may not be adequately trained in the care and treatment of varicose veins.
