Abstract
Facial disharmony may result from underlying skeletal deformity. Evaluation usually discloses the nature of the disorder and guides treatment. Correction of the deformity often begins with the dental occlusal relationship and usually necessitates orthodontics prior to surgical intervention. When the etiology of the skeletal deformity is mandibular, various surgical procedures may be used. This report discusses three common hard-tissue orthognathic techniques that can be employed for the correction of these deformities and presents examples of patients treated by these methods. The operations described, when utilized appropriately, can provide a harmonious skeletal framework for simultaneous or future adjunctive cosmetic surgical procedures.
