It has recently come to the attention of the medical community that herbs may be dangerous if taken just before surgery. Many of the herbs can cause allergies, heart problems, anesthesia problems, operative or postoperative bleeding, or excessive clotting. It is important for cosmetic surgeons to be aware of the problem and to warn their patients to avoid herbs before surgery, including some spices and foods, for at least 2 weeks before any surgical procedure.
