Abstract
Environmental Impact Assessment is essentially a process comprising four elements: identification, prediction, evaluation, and monitoring. Properly conducted EIA studies can identify linkages between injurious events and/or activities and their damaging consequences. This aids in making the risk management decision.
This paper discusses how EIA can be used as a tool for risk managemnet. Each element of EIA, as well as available risk management options, is discussed. As a case example, the paper reviews EIA guidelines/procedures in Thailand and identify weakness and strength in capabilities to identify the sensitive areas where risk should be effectively controlled.
