Responding to Recall Requests: A Strategy for Managing Goods Withdrawal

Abstract

Goods recalls occur with unfortunate regularity, primarily due to sellers’ mistakes, but occasionally because of product tamperings. In either situation the legal environment affects what the marketer can and should do. In this paper, the current legal environment influencing recalls is reviewed, and resultant implications for marketers are explored.
