Abstract
This reaction is a brief examination of social maladjustment from the perspective of political-cultural values and organizational theory, which Maag and Howell claim are the proper vantage points from which to argue the issues and seek resolution of the controversy. This analysis reveals that, when carried to its logical conclusion, the Maag and Howell perspective is oversimplistic and naive about organizational structures and processes and the problem of change in school organization, an exercise in “macrofu tility.”
