Abstract
The commentaries in this issue have been written in response to my request for several experts to examine a recent RASE article concerning preliminary screening of behavior disordered students (see Walker, Severson, Stiller, Williams, Haring, Shinn, & Todis, “Systematic Screening of Pupils in the Elementary Age Range at Risk for Behavior Disorders: Development and Trial Testing of a Multiple Gating Model,” RASE, Vol. 9, No. 3, pp. 8-20). The commentaries are followed by a responsive statement from Walker and colleagues. As we develop improved methods for determining the seriousness of learning and behavior problems in school settings, it is important that we develop a dialogue among professionals as a means of clarifying, critiquing, and comparing perceptions of how such instruments and methods might be appropriately used. I'd like to thank all of these respondents for their willingness to comment, as well as their willingness to meet demanding publication deadlines.LI
