Abstract
There seems to be increasing agreement among researchers from different specialties concerning the problems of reading disability. There has been considerable progress especially in the analysis of reading processes in a way applicable to reading disability. Especially important is the centrality of linguistic factors, including those important for decoding. However there is still much to know about the exact nature of these linguistic abilities and their role in reading ability and disability. It is likely that the study of reading disabled populations will not illuminate this role without the study of broader ranges of ability.
