Abstract
The notion of community offers a useful analytical concept for exploring the vocation of adult education, but the value of this approach depends upon careful exploration and application of the term. One means to achieve this is to consider community in terms of a relationship rather than an entity. This approach shows how communities serve to regulate behavior and inform values. It also demonstrates some ways in which analysis of the underlying relationships provides insight into adult education practice.
