Abstract

Dear Colleagues,
It has been an honor to serve on the Adult Education Quarterly (AEQ) editorial team. For the past three years, we have worked hard with support from you, our reviewers, consulting editorial board, and authors to continue the tradition of disseminating quality research articles on adult education, resulting in an impact factor of 1.5. We are pleased to have the opportunity to serve for two additional years. We extend our thanks to the AAACE Publications Committee for continuing to entrust us with this important work. We also thank Ralf St. Clair, who resigned from the editorial team in May 2025. His insights and contributions were invaluable and greatly appreciated.
Though Ralf will be missed, we are excited to welcome Dr. Charisse Gulosino to our team. Charisse is a full professor and program coordinator in Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Memphis. She holds a doctorate from Columbia University and completed postdoctoral training at Brown, specializing in educational policy and program evaluation with a focus on school choice, opportunity, and accountability.
Charisse's research bridges K–12 and post-secondary education systems, driving opportunity and access for marginalized learners through innovative approaches in policy, literacy, and technology. Drawing on firsthand experience building urban charter schools from the ground up in underserved communities, she crafts context-driven solutions that address the distinct challenges of each educational setting. As a committed mentor to emerging school leaders, Charisse leads improvement initiatives using a range of methodologies, including improvement science, to foster sustainable change. Her current work sits at the nexus of artificial intelligence, school choice, and adult education—advancing digital literacy, closing resource gaps, strengthening workforce readiness, and confronting the digital divide.
With a transdisciplinary foundation and expertise in advanced research, analysis, and evaluation tools, Charisse brings methodological rigor, geographic acuity, and stakeholder-centered strategies to every project. Her work consistently delivers fresh analytical insights and reflects a strong ability to adapt across diverse and evolving educational landscapes.
As co-editor of Adult Education Quarterly, Charisse applies her quantitative and multi-method expertise alongside inclusive critical frameworks to expand the journal's impact and spark transformative, field-shaping research in adult learning.
The addition of Dr. Gulosino marks a historic moment in the history of AEQ. This is the first time that AEQ has been led by a team of Black and Brown women. Given the assault on equity and justice and the active attempts of erasure concerning racially minoritized people, leadership matters. As leaders of AEQ, we maintain that diversity still matters and pledge to continue creating space for marginalized and underrepresented voices. Toward that end, we are accepting manuscript submissions, including forum pieces, on any topics related to adult education, but are especially interested in work currently underrepresented in AEQ.
Looking forward to our last two years of service.
The AEQ Editorial Team
