Abstract
This study, using the maximum likelihood method, investigates the predictors of employment for Puerto Rican youth, ages 15–29. The results suggest that older and more educated workers are more likely to be employed. In addition, the results show that civil status, unemployment spells, spells out of the labor force, and gender are significant determinants of employment. Given the high unemployment rate among Hispanics, this study adds to the knowledge of the factors that are important in determining the employment odds among Puerto Rican youth in the United States.
